Source: SEEK, Field Service Technician salary, viewed 23 October 2026. SEEK bases these on full-time salaries that employers disclose in SEEK job ads. Some include super and other benefits and some don't. They are averages of what was advertised, not what people are paid, and they change month to month.

Why the range is so wide.

  • Industry. Mining, resources and energy roles pay the most on average, often with rosters and allowances built in.
  • Remoteness. The highest regional averages are in remote mining areas, where travel and time away come with the job.
  • Licences and tickets. An electrical licence, instrument work or hazardous area competency narrows the field and lifts the rate.
  • On-call and overtime. Two jobs with the same base can end up far apart once overtime and on-call allowances are counted.

What goes into a field service package.

Technicians compare offers on more than base pay. When you read an ad, or write one, look for:

  • Base pay, and whether super is on top or included.
  • On-target earnings, meaning base plus expected overtime and on-call. Ask how the figure was worked out.
  • On-call allowance and call-out rates.
  • A company vehicle, and whether private use is allowed.
  • Tools, phone and laptop.
  • Travel and accommodation allowances for nights away.
  • Training on the equipment, and tickets the employer pays for.

For employers.

Put the base and the on-target earnings in the ad, and say which is which. Technicians skim for pay, roster, vehicle and travel before anything else. Our guide on how to hire field service technicians covers the rest.
