Field service technician recruitment.

Field service technicians keep equipment running at the customer's site. They drive to the job, find the fault, fix it and explain it. We recruit them Australia-wide, permanent and contract.

Field Service Field Service Technicians

The work.

  • Planned maintenance and breakdown call-outs on the customer's equipment.
  • Fault-finding on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or control systems, depending on the equipment.
  • Service reports, parts requests and time sheets, often on a tablet or phone.
  • Explaining the fault and the fix to the customer, sometimes on a bad day for them.

Why the hire is hard.

  • Experience on similar equipment matters, and the people who have it are usually already in work.
  • A trade ticket alone doesn't show fault-finding. Some applicants have only done installs.
  • Travel, nights away and an on-call roster rule many people out, and that should be said before an interview, not after.
  • Regional roles draw on a small local pool.

What we check before you meet anyone.

You get a short list of people we have spoken to, checked for licences, tickets and the equipment you run.

Trade and licence
The trade stream, and for electrical work the licence class and the state it was issued in.
Fault-finding
We ask them to walk us through a recent fault: what they saw, what they tested and what fixed it.
Equipment
The types and brands they have worked on, and how long.
Tickets
White Card, EWP, working at heights, confined space, test and tag, forklift, with expiry dates.
Driving
Licence class and record. Most of these roles start with a vehicle.
Travel and on-call
How far they will travel, nights away, and how often they can be on call.

What candidates compare.

Good people weigh offers on more than base pay. Put these in the ad and the first conversation:

  • Base pay, and what overtime and on-call add (on-target earnings).
  • On-call roster and call-out rates.
  • Company vehicle, and whether private use is allowed.
  • Tools, phone and laptop supplied.
  • Travel radius, nights away and accommodation.
  • Training on the equipment, and who backs them up on a hard job.
